This map of Eye was produced in 1839 shortly before the Eye to Mellis railway and captures a distinct moment in time.
The map was subsequently annotated using original source Borough of Eye records dated 1839 by John Blott in 1975 who compiled a table of the owner of each property, where available, and the tenants. It not only provides a unique glimpse into the society of the time but also a great fun if you can identify your house to see who owned it at the time.
Our grateful thanks to David (Toby) Pulford who loaned the map and allowed the reproduction of some of the cards from his collection of Eye memorabilia.
